Consumer:Thiothixene may cause dose-related dystonic reactions, prolonged abnormal contractions of muscle groups, may occur in susceptible individuals during the first few days of treatment. These reactions are characterized by spastic contraction of discrete muscle groups that may include spasm of the neck muscles, sometimes progressing to tightness of the throat, swallowing difficulty, difficulty breathing, and/or protrusion of the tongue. Therapy with thiothixene should be administered cautiously in patients, particularly males and children, with hypocalcemia or severe dehydration, since these patients may be more susceptible to dystonic reactions.
